The Chakra System

The body’s energy centers are referred to in Sanskrit as Chakra’s meaning “wheel.” There are seven main chakras, also coined as centers of energy in the body. The energy centers are located along our spine, starting at the spine’s base flowing to our head’s crown. Each chakra corresponds to a sound, color, organ, mantra or incantation, and element. The spine represents a central channel for the flow of energy throughout the body. Please think of the chakras as metaphors for expressing consciousness as it manifests in our body through energy. Chakras are at the crossroads of our spirit body and our physical body.

THE 1st ENERGY CENTER IS THE ROOT CHAKRA:

Muladhara (mu-lad-hara)
ROOT BASIS

The energy center that is closet to the earth representing foundational root, stability, security, safety, basic foundational needs.

Encompasses the first three vertebrae smell, bladder, and colon and associated with smell

The associated color is deep red.

Mantra or incantation is Lam (earth)

THE 2nd ENERGY CENTER IS THE SACRAL CHAKRA:

Svadhisthana (svad-his-thana)

ONE'S DWELLING PLACE

The energy center that is located in the pelvic region representing creativity, reproduction, vitality, and sexual energy

Encompasses the reproductive organs and is associated with taste

The corresponding color is orange.

Mantra or incantation is Vam (water)

THE 3rd ENERGY CENTER IS THE SOLAR PLEXUS:

Manipura (ma-nipu-ra)
THE CITY OF GEMS

This energy center that is located above your navel representing centeredness, personal power, your will to do, and the manifestation of desire

Encompasses the lower gallbladder, stomach, and spleen and is associated with the sense of sight

The corresponding color is yellow.

Mantra or incantation is Ram (fire)

THE 4th ENERGY CENTER IS THE HEART CHAKRA:

Anahata (a-na-hata)
UNBROKEN RHYTHM

This energy center is located in the heart center representing compassion, joy, harmony, love, empathy, selflessness, and devotion. The home of emotional consciousness, the heart chakra bridges the lower three chakras of matter to the upper three chakras of spirit.

Encompasses the lungs and heart and is associated with the sense of touch

The corresponding color is green.

Mantra or incantation is Yam (air)

THE 5th ENERGY CENTER IS THE THROAT CHAKRA:

Vishuddha (vish-ud-dha)
ESPECIALLY PURE

This energy center is located in the area of the throat representing manifestation through speech. The center of purification, the throat chakra, is the home of creative verbal-expression.

Encompasses the neck, thyroid, jaw, mouth, and tongue and is associated with the sense of hearing

The corresponding color is pale blue.

Mantra or incantation is Ham (ether or space)

THE 6th ENERGY CENTER IS THE Third Eye CHAKRA:

Ajna (a-ju-na)
BEYOND WISOM

This energy center is in the region between your eyebrows representing intuition, insight, imagination, body-mind, and soul integration. The deep part of awareness, the third eye chakra, fosters a quiet connection with your soul’s eye.

Encompasses the brain stem and cerebellum and is associated with the sense of hearing

The corresponding color is indigo.

Mantra or incantation is Sham (calm; quietness)

THE 7th ENERGY CENTER IS THE CROWN CHAKRA:

Sahasrara (sa-has-rara)
THE THOUSAND PEDAL LOTUS

This energy center is located at your head’s crown representing enlightenment and spiritual connection to our higher selves and our divine creator.

The corresponding color is white or ultraviolet.

Mantra or incantation is Om (solemn affirmation)

In the practice of meditation, the chakras store the energy of thoughts, feelings and memories, experiences, and behaviors. Chakras can impact our present and future mindset, emotional consciousness, and actions. Chakra meditation and balancing intend to connect with our stored energy to heal, cleanse, and revitalize the energy centers as our inner reality creates our outer reality.
