Pure quartz (approximately 99.8% silicon quartz) and sand are heated to around 4000 degrees in a rotating mold to create crystal singing bowls. Crystal singing bowls range in diameter from 5 to 24 inches and can be clear or frosted. Most clear crystal bowls are portable and easy to play with one hand because of their size and weight. As a result of advancements in digital technology, crystal bowls may be "programmed" to produce a wide variety of tones during the production phase. Specific pairs of bowls may create a beautiful melody when played simultaneously.
